Western Myall – Desert-Hardened Australian Native
Western Myall is a dense and richly coloured Australian hardwood, valued for its deep chocolate to caramel tones and highly varied grain. Native to the inland deserts, it is naturally slow-growing and produces timber of remarkable hardness and stability.
Blanks can range from boldly figured with rippling chatoyance to clean and straight-grained pieces with a refined uniformity. Many show both in one blank, creating striking contrast between dark heartwood and lighter sap streaks. Western Myall turns cleanly with sharp tools and polishes to a warm satin or glossy finish, rewarding careful makers with pens full of depth and movement.
