Woodcut Tools have been designing and making woodturning tools for over 30 years. The company started in the 1970s when founder Ken Port, frustrated with the tools available to him at the time, began making his own. It is still a family business, now in its second generation and based in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. Primary tool lines include:
**Bowlsaver Bowl Coring Systems** - Bowl coring lets you take a series of nested bowls out of a single blank instead of turning the middle into a barrow of shavings. The Bowlsaver Original cores bowls from 3" to 12" in diameter and up to 5" deep. The larger Bowlsaver Max4 takes that out to 18". Both pivot on a rotation post so the knife follows a fixed arc rather than a path you steer by hand, which is what makes the bowl shape predictable and the results repeatable.
**Bowlsaver Knives and Stellite Cutters** - Every Bowlsaver knife carries a Stellite cutter, the same material sawmills run on tipped bandsaw blades. It resists knots, grit and stones, holds an edge a long time, and takes a hollow grind that crushes the shavings as it cuts so they do not pack into the cut. The Small and Large knives fit both systems. The Max knife is Max4 only. Replacement cutters come with the solder already on the base.
**Bowlsaver Light Guide** - Traces the path the cutter will take across the outside of the blank, so you can plan the whole nest before any timber moves. Fits both the Original and the Max4, including systems you already own, and now comes with a USB rechargeable light pen.
**Tool Posts** - The one part that has to match your lathe. Woodcut make tool posts in a full range of diameters to suit different banjo bores. We stock 1", 30mm and 40mm, with the rest of the range available to order.
