Woodcut Mill Drill Universal

The Mill Drill Universal is a versatile tool that makes producing pepper mills simpler and faster, replacing the multiple drill bits normally needed. Developed with Australian turner Brendan Stemp and refined with German production turner Mario Nagel, it's designed to operate with both the CrushGrind Shaft and CrushGrind Shaft Mini mechanisms.

It incorporates a No. 2 Morse Taper, so it fits into the tail stock of most lathes and the drilling can be done right on the lathe. Starting from a 1" hole in the blank, the Mill Drill enlarges the hole and cuts a step for the mechanism, drilling two different holes to the correct diameter and distance apart so the mechanism fits exactly. The second diameter lets the mechanism rest against a shoulder at your chosen depth, with ample clearance for the knurled adjustment knob. With some adjustments to the cutters it cuts a wide range of hole sizes. The cutters have machined flats for simple setup, and the body is zinc plated for protection against rust.

What you'll need:
A lathe with a tail stock, a 1" drill bit or forstner bit for the starting hole, and Vernier callipers or an accurate rule to set the cutters to your mechanism.
