Forest Oak Pen Blank, Australian Hardwood
Forest Oak is an Australian hardwood found in New South Wales and eastern Queensland. Also known as Rose Sheoak, it is valued for its warm pink to reddish brown colour, natural figure and suitability for decorative turning.
These blanks are supplied rough sawn and unfinished. In this state, the timber can appear pale and muted, with its colour and character becoming more apparent after sanding and finishing. The sanded and oiled examples show the warmer, richer appearance that finishing can bring out.
Forest Oak is a hard, dense timber that turns and finishes well. It is a rewarding choice for pens and small turnings, where polishing highlights the timber’s natural colour and lustre.
