Lighthouse Pen Kit — Antique Rose Copper / Gun-Polish

A single-tube twist pen with a working lighthouse lamp in the cap. Turn your favourite blank, press it together, and you have a pen that writes properly and gets picked up by everyone who walks past the desk.

Why you'll like it

  • Working lamp: a lit lighthouse in the cap, powered by three LR41 batteries in the barrel. The light and the refill are controlled by two separate parts, so you can write with the lamp on or off.
  • Beginner-friendly build: single 72.5 mm tube, one drill size, five assembly steps.
  • Smooth twist action: a reliable everyday writer using Lighthouse Refill A0303 (included).
  • Two finishes: Antique Rose Copper or Gun-Polish (gunmetal tone).
  • Gift-ready design: the clear cap lampshade and clip detail make it stand out on a desk.

How the light works

Worth reading before you build it. There are two separate twisting parts at the writing end and they do different things.

  • The pointed nib controls the refill. Rotate it to extend or retract for writing.
  • The wider tip-holder assembly, the one with the ships engraved on it, controls the lamp. Hold the finished barrel in one hand and rotate the tip-holder clockwise to switch the light on, then back to switch it off.

Handling the cap

The clear lampshade is attached to the metal cap body. Twisting force on the lampshade can work it loose, so use it as a window, not a handle.

  • When threading the cap on during assembly, grip the metal cap body or base.
  • When switching the light on or off, hold the finished barrel and rotate the tip-holder.
  • Do not use the lampshade as the part you twist, at either stage.

The instruction sheet has side-by-side photos of the correct and incorrect grip. Worth a look before your first build.
