Precision Mandrel System

Reduce the shaft pressure that can cause a pen mandrel to bow. This system pairs an adjustable mandrel with an Australian-made mandrel saver, so tailstock pressure bears on the bushing assembly rather than the end of the mandrel shaft.

What is included:
Adjustable pen mandrel with Slimline bushings.
Australian-made pen mandrel saver with a Japanese-made 6002NSE bearing.

Choose the taper:
MT1: one MT1 mandrel and one MT1 mandrel saver.
MT2: one MT2 mandrel and one MT2 mandrel saver.
Check both the headstock and tailstock tapers in your lathe manual. Each pack contains matching tapers; do not assume every lathe uses the same size.

Adjust the mandrel length to suit your kit and use the correct kit-specific bushings. Two wrenches are needed for mandrel adjustment and are not included. Pen kits, blanks, drill bits and lathe are separate. Correct setup and turning technique still matter; a mandrel saver cannot correct every cause of an out-of-round pen.
