The Pro-Tip Bowl Gouge is unique among bowl gouges: the tip is replaceable, so the tool will last you a lifetime. This is the 1/2"" (13mm) gouge with the 55 degree fingernail grind, handled.

Instead of a long fluted shaft, the cutting tip mounts on a strong solid shaft. That eliminates shaft flex and tool vibration, meaning less tool marks and less sanding, and the tool always maintains constant leverage because the shaft is never ground away as you sharpen. The tip is machined from M2 HSS solid bar, heat treated to 62 Rockwell and triple tempered, with a parabolic U shaped flute, delivered sharp and ready to use out of the box. The 55 degree fingernail grind is uniquely designed to keep the bevel of the gouge in contact at the bottom of the bowl.

The ash handle mounts the shaft a full 75mm (3"") deep to further minimise vibration. When the tip is eventually done, you replace the tip, not the whole tool: tips are adhered with anaerobic adhesive (supplied with replacement tips), removed by applying heat and re-set with a few drops of adhesive.
