Woodcut Bowlsaver Max4 Coring System
The Bowlsaver Max4 is Woodcut's largest bowl coring system, developed with founder Ken Port and an international team of turners as the successor to the Max3. It cores solid bowl blanks out of larger work, so one big blank becomes a nest of bowls instead of a pile of shavings.
Three zinc-plated knives (Max, Large and Small) each carry a precision sharpened Stellite cutter shaped to a radius, covering cut diameters from 75mm (3") to 450mm (18"). The Max knife has a unique concave shape and is reinforced with a machined steel post and bearing, so it stays stable under the downward pressure of coring large bowls without needing an extra tool rest. The platform is precision machined cast aluminium and steel, anodised for durability, and supports coring wet or dry timber.
What's included:
Three knives with pre-sharpened Stellite cutters, a 20" long handle with foam grip and spigot for an extension handle, platform, No. 2 Morse Taper, 3/8 - 16" threaded rod, planning templates, a detailed user guide, and a kit bag with the hex keys for fastening.
What you'll need:
A lathe with a flat bed, minimum 1.5HP, and a swing of 16" to 25". A tool post is required to fit the Max4 to your lathe and is sold separately in 25.4mm (1"), 25mm and 30mm sizes. Check your lathe specifications before ordering.
Where it sits:
This is the step up from the Bowlsaver Original. If your lathe is under 16" swing, the Original is the better fit.
