Timber Pen Blanks
Australian native timbers & rare species
Our pen blanks showcase Australia's extraordinary native timbers, many are endemic, slow-growing species found nowhere else on Earth. When you turn one of these blanks, you're working with timber that carries genuine Australian character: the figure, colour, and grain that only centuries of growth in our unique landscape can produce.
Why these timbers matter
- Native species focus: Our collection features Australian icons like Huon Pine, Tiger Myrtle, Jarrah (including figured), Lace Sheoak, Black Mulga, Marri (including fiddleback), Western Myall, Blackbutt (including Goldfields), River Banksia, and Minnerichi. Plus exceptional Mallee, Coolabah, and York Gum burls when available.
- Genuine scarcity: These species appear in limited runs as availability allows. Some take decades to mature; others grow only in remote regions. When you see something special, it's worth securing—it may not return for months.
- Sustainable sourcing: Most blanks come from milling offcuts, giving new life to timber that might otherwise be wasted. We don't cut up furniture-grade boards just for pen blanks.
Properly prepared
- Fully dried: Every blank has been air-dried
- No wax coating: What you see is what you get. Our blanks aren't hiding behind wax—they're stable, ready to turn, and honest about their character.
- Purpose-selected: Each blank is chosen and cut specifically for pen turning, maximising figure and minimising waste at the lathe.
